The new wool treatment plant in Tagamanent is now a reality. This innovative project has been driven by a dedicated team with a clear ambition: to activate the circular economy and address the current challenge faced by many small livestock farmers in managing the wool from their flocks. A resource that is often discarded and becomes waste, despite its great value thanks to its natural properties and its many possible applications.
Recovering wool and transforming it into high-value materials is a necessary goal, yet one that has been difficult to achieve. The dismantling of the wool industry across Europe has drastically reduced the available processing facilities, making it harder to take advantage of this local resource. In this context, initiatives such as the new small-scale plant in Tagamanent play a crucial role in enabling the recovery of local wool and restoring the value it deserves.
At Girbau LAB, we are proud and grateful to have participated in this initiative, contributing by developing a specific wool-washing process that enables high-value applications. It has been a pleasure to work alongside Sean Acuña, Ignasi Martinez, and the entire Tagamanent City Council team on such a complete and necessary circularity project.
With this inauguration, we hope Tagamanent will be just the first of many small-scale wool treatment stations across the region, helping farmers, artisans, and local industry work with this remarkable resource: wool.
